News for St Joseph Seminary, Kerala

Dear Msgr Valent,

Prayerful greetings from St. Joseph Pontifical Seminary, Carmelgiri, Aluva.

With a grateful heart for all the blessings we have received through so many good people like you, I write this letter. Even during these difficult times of the pandemic, we were able to lead a normal and rather safe life in the seminary. We experienced the special care and protection of the Lord in very many ways. God always provided for our needs. Let His name be praised.

They will return to the seminary on the second of January. In this academic year we have 145 resident students and 51 day‐scholars. We have 17 resident members on the Staff; 6 of them are spiritual directors. Fr. Charles Leon and Fr. Antony Valungal were transferred and Fr. Pius Arattukulam from the Diocese of Alleppey, joined the staff as the spiritual director. There are also 28 visiting faculties who assist us in the academic formation; some of them are lay persons and religious women. This year we will have 16 new ordinations to Priesthood.

This year, unlike last year, the seminary reopened as per schedule and started the formation programme in person. The students reached the seminary in June. They completed the first semester by October, and in November they started the second semester after the exams. From June, for the sake of safety they stayed inside the campus. In December they went for ten days holidays. During that time, we had new Ordinations.

During the Christmas season we gratefully remembered all our dear benefactors and the sacrifices they make on our behalf. We are grateful to so many of them who help us through Missio Malta with prayers and financial support. May you find peace and happiness throughout the year. Your support is so important for us. Once again, our heartfelt thanks. Please continue to pray for our seminarians that they become holy priests for the Holy Catholic Church and for the good of all. Our humble prayers for you. Once again wishing heavenly blessings.

I remain yours devotedly in Christ Jesus,

Father Chacko Puthenpurackal

Rector
